Your character has a flaw that's actually on the page. Has it cost them something they don't get back?
Your character has a defining skill or power. Do you ever show where it actually came from?
Does at least one major character keep disagreeing with yours, for reasons the story treats as fair?
When something good happens to your character, does the story actually explain or earn it?
Your character has an exceptional origin. Does the story actually explore what that status costs them?
When your character is careless or wrong about something, does anyone around them actually react to it?
Every time your character uses their key ability, does it cost them anything at all?
Has a character the story trusts ever criticized yours on the page, without later being proven wrong?
When your character breaks a rule or a promise, does the story actually make them pay for it?
Does your character's backstory actually shape a specific choice they make right now, on the page?
Has your character ever done something none of their established traits would have predicted?
Has your character ever actually failed, or been outmatched, at the one skill that defines them?
Does the antagonist ever get to actually beat or dismiss your character, rather than just respect them?
When other characters take the same risks, do they face outcomes in the same range as yours?
How much of the story's own attention goes to backstory, compared to what that origin is doing right now?
